Vodafone Idea (Vi) has launched India’s first cell broadcast-based public warning system with the Andhra Pradesh government and Celltick. The company will be taking the help of Celltick, one of the largest cell-broadcast based products provider and a global leader of Public Warning Systems. Celltick announced that Vodafone Idea (Vi) has become the first telecom operator in the state of Andhra Pradesh to support the CAP-compliant Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS). For the unaware, the IPAWS is being deployed in the state of Andhra Pradesh for the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).

Through the CBC platform provided by Celltick, telecom operators can broadcast time-sensitive information to their customers/subscribers’ mobile devices. This system is immune to traffic loads and network jams to ensure that if the data is time-sensitive, it reaches the customers’ of the company in real-time. During any natural disaster or calamity, Vi’s subscribers, including the subscribers living in Andhra Pradesh or the international tourists using the networks of Vi, will get real-time alerts. This feature certainly has a lot of value since it can result in millions of lives saved. It would be good to see Vodafone Idea (Vi), Celltick, and the governments of other states doing this for the other parts of the country as well.
